1. Can a windshield chip be repaired instead of replacing the windshield?
Yes. Many rock chips can be professionally repaired without replacing the windshield. Whether a repair is appropriate depends on the size, type, depth, location and condition of the damage. Repairing a chip early can help prevent it from spreading into a larger crack.
2. How big of a windshield chip can be repaired?
Many common rock chips, including bullseye, star and combination breaks, can be repaired. Size is only one factor, though. The location, depth, age and condition of the damage also determine whether repair is appropriate. Quik Fix can evaluate the damage and let you know whether it is a good candidate for repair.
3. Can a cracked windshield be repaired?
Some windshield cracks can be repaired, depending on their length, location, age and condition. Not every crack is safely repairable, so Quik Fix evaluates the damage before recommending repair rather than replacement. We generally repair cracks up to around 7-8 inches in length. Longer cracks could be repaired, but would need to be evaluated.
4. Will windshield repair make the chip completely disappear?
Usually not. The primary purpose of windshield repair is to restore strength to the damaged area and help prevent the damage from spreading. A successful repair will improve the appearance considerably, but some evidence of the original impact may remain.
5. How soon should I repair a rock chip?
As soon as practical. Temperature changes, road vibration, moisture, dirt and additional impacts can cause existing windshield damage to spread or make it more difficult to repair. Repairing a fresh chip also helps keep contaminants from entering the damaged area.
6. Can Texas heat cause a windshield chip to spread?
Yes. Windshield glass expands and contracts as temperatures change. North Texas heat combined with rapid temperature changes, such as cooling a very hot vehicle with air conditioning, can place additional stress on already damaged glass. A small chip can sometimes turn into a larger crack unexpectedly.

Yes. Quik Fix is a mobile windshield chip and crack repair service. We travel to customers throughout our service area, allowing many repairs to be completed conveniently at your home, workplace or another suitable location.

Appointments outside the normal service area may also be available.
9. How long does a windshield chip repair take?
Most windshield chip repairs can be completed relatively quickly (15-30 minutes), although repair time varies depending on the type and extent of the damage and the number of chips being repaired.
10. Can you repair more than one windshield chip during the same appointment?
Yes, multiple repairable chips can often be repaired during the same appointment. Let Quik Fix know how many damaged areas you have when requesting your quote so we can evaluate the repair and provide accurate pricing.
11. What should I do after getting a rock chip in my windshield?
Avoid putting unnecessary stress on the damaged glass and schedule an evaluation as soon as possible. If practical, keep the damaged area clean and dry and avoid extreme temperature changes until it can be repaired. Do not press on or pick at the damaged area. Do not wash it or use your wipers. If you can do so without adding pressure to the glass, you may put a piece of clear tape over the break for additional protection from the elements until it can be repaired.
